Pre-designed Lego sets are very popular among children of all ages and even adults. People are often frustrated that Lego bricks are easy to mix up among different sets. However, I see this as beginning of going beyond the script and being more creative with the pieces. I find that deep within the prepackaged Lego sets lies a reliable way to expand the imagination beyond the shackled reality of unrealized potential.
Some adults might have realized that children have a knack for creativity. Some argue that this might not benefit children in certain subjects that require practicality, but in art and engineering, this is a skill necessary to make a novel impact rather than staying hidden within unoriginal crowds. Nowadays, technology is blurring the boundaries of reality and sci-fi, and a “silly” idea is only so far from becoming reality.
Legos truly demonstrate the many possibilities of our world. Rather than being guided along a path destined to be indistinguishable, Lego leaves imagination to the role of the builder. When the instructions are taken away, those who are experienced with Lego can still create with their own ideas.
This tool—of course—only serves as stool to reach more sophisticated design programs, but it does a great job at it. Lego enhances the mind’s 3D awareness while also creating a natural sense of stability, providing a strong foundation for a professional career in design.
Some of my more recent Lego builds vary in idea from my older ones, and although different, Lego has the ability to adapt to my ideas—from working machinery to gunned robots. I have acquired many different skills from purely spending time on an enjoyable activity, and my creations reflect the—otherwise chimerical-deemed—active thinking that goes to waste when not actively practiced.
Examples shown above are my creations that resulted from hours of design, and one in particular—the car—results from my understanding and dedication to perfecting my exemplary armored vehicle. These designs are completely original and no instructions have adulterated my pure skill.
